Welcome to Paignton Writers’ Circle. We are a group of writers who live in Torbay and the surrounding area. The group has been established for more than twenty years.
We are a varied bunch, from a variety of backgrounds, and a wide age range. Some of us are actively looking for publication, some are independently-published. Others write for magazines or competitions, but mostly purely for private pleasure. At the moment the main emphasis is on prose fiction, poetry – including performance poetry – and memoirs.
We meet fortnightly on Mondays from 2pm to 4pm at Paignton Library, for a relaxed afternoon where we can share our work. We set a schedule of topics (please see the menu bar for our latest timetable), but there is no pressure to keep to this, and members can invite feedback and constructive criticism if they would like it. We always do our best to offer this in a supportive and friendly way!
While most of our meetings are for members to read their work aloud, we also have occasional workshops/practical discussions led by outside speakers and/or members. We also usually have an annual competition, open only to members.
New members are very welcome (unless we are at capacity!), and are invited to come along to a meeting to find out more about us before joining. Let us know if you’re interested in attending and/or joining up, so that we know to expect you! Not sure how to find us, or when? Take a look at the schedule, which is accessible from the menu. :-)
We look forward to meeting you!
Coronavirus Update: All scheduled meetings have been suspended. We are not expecting to resume before September, at the earliest. We will update the website as more information becomes available.
